Colnago V4Rs

The performance of the V4Rs is that of an aero bike.

Compared to the V3Rs, in a real race setup (tested in the wind tunnel with an athlete pedaling at 50 km/h with 1 bottle and one empty bottle cage), Colnago measured an aerodynamic saving of 3%, which corresponds to approximately 13.2 watts. With an advanced aero setup (aero wheels and aero Colnago Computer support), the bike had an aerodynamic saving of 6% (approximately 27.7 watts saved).

The shape has been revised and perfectly integrated with the new lightweight front fork (designed to allow effective tire clearance up to 32 mm) and with the new cockpit. Although the upper headset bearings are larger than those of the V3Rs, allowing cables to run inside without the need for the D-shaped steerer tube and improving the overall stability of the front end, the overall shape has better air resistance.

Colnago has created internal methodologies to replicate the load forces of standing and seated positions and to control the overall deformation and stiffness of the frame. Colnago was then able to define what we call RDS (Real-Dynamic Stiffness) and characterize it under combined multiple load conditions.

The new V4Rs significantly improves the crash resistance of the most exposed parts that can be subject to impact under racing conditions. An example of this is the completely redesigned seat stays, which, in addition to their more aerodynamic shape, also significantly improve bending and impact resistance. The robustness of this design also minimizes the need for maintenance.

The weight distribution has changed compared to the V3Rs. The front fork is now lighter and the total weight of the frame kit + handlebar setup has been reduced by 56 grams. The result is better handling in corners and more safety and precision during descents.
