More about Specialized:

Specialized is known as one of the best, if not the best, sports bike manufacturer in the world. Their home base is located in Morgen Hill, California. The Specialized company was founded in 1974 by Mike Sinyard.

Specialized is the company known for the well-known Brain system. The Brain is a self-thinking system, which means that the use of a lockout is no longer necessary. The Brain technology has been developed around the 'Inertia Valve' design. The Brain technology recognizes the difference between pedal force and impact force. This ensures that the suspension responds stiffly on, for example, asphalt or concrete surfaces, but on rougher surfaces the suspension switches into full action. The Brain system can be completely adjusted to personal preference and to the different types of trails in both the front fork and the damper through various setting options.

Specialized models

Specialized has a very wide range. It is already possible to buy a nice Specy for 1000. We will highlight the top two Cross Country models that are best suited for use in the Netherlands or Belgium.

Specialized Epic Pro

Epic pro Full Suspension

The Epic Pro is Specialized's Cross Country thoroughbred and comes in two top versions: the Epic and the Epic Expert . The Epic Pro is equipped as standard with a Sid SL Brain front fork, which has 100 MM travel and is extremely perfect for the conditions in our country. The rear damper is a Rockshox Specialized Brain damper, which has 5 different adjustment options. The Epic Pro is equipped with a Sram XO AXS mounting as standard. The XO AXS mounting ensures very fast and accurate switching performance and is very light and wear-resistant as a complete set. The Epic Pro is also equipped with a set of light and stiff hand-spoked Roval Control wheels. The wheelset weighs only 1610 grams and is ideal for tubeless riding due to its Zero Bead Hook design.

Are you looking for a real winner, but would you like to keep it somewhat affordable within the top segment? Then the Epic Pro is a perfect choice.

The Epic Pro Hardtail

Just like its Full Suspension brother, the Epic Pro Hardtail has a Fact 11 frame: fact 11 stands for Functional Advanced Composite Technology. Every gram is shaved off the Het Fact 11 frame to create the lightest, stiffest and strongest frame possible.

When you ride a bike like this, you notice that every pedal and effort gets the most out of the bike. Especially when driving through the sand and through sharp bends, you notice that every step really hits the mark.
This makes the Epic Pro Hardtail ideal for the Dutch and Belgian trails. If you want to take trips abroad more often, our advice is to consider a Full Suspension bike.

The advantages of the Specialized Epic Pro Full Suspension and the Specialized Epic Pro Hardtail at a glance:

Advantages of Specialized Epic Pro Full Suspension:

  • The Brain manages your suspension for you and lets you fully focus on the trail and the surroundings. The Brain suspension adjusts between hard and soft faster than human response, without the need to operate any buttons or levers, so that the suspension is always in the right position for a given terrain;
  • On paths with many bumps you can cycle faster with a full suspension. Take braking potholes for example, you can easily steer over them. Drops are also optimally absorbed;
  • Maximum comfort, because the shocks are better absorbed. This also gives you more certainty, allowing you to achieve faster times;
  • The fully is easier to control;
  • The bicycle reacts more predictably to obstacles and brakes more powerfully, because the tires almost always remain on the ground;
  • More grip. This is due to the rear damper: it compresses slightly, so that the rear tire is, as it were, pressed into the ground;
  • A Specialized Epic Pro Full Suspension has a Roval Control Wheelset as standard. These are very stiff and also very light. With the top hubs from DT-Swiss this gives you a big advantage over the rest;
  • A Specialized Epic Pro Full Suspension is an extra light full suspension bike due to its fact 11 frame and components;
  • The latest Epic Pro is equipped with a Sram XO AXS drivechain as standard. This groupset is harder, quieter, lighter, more durable and shifts super accurately;
  • Sram TLM with 2 piston hydrological disc brakes for balanced power and modulation.

Benefits of Specialized S-Works Epic Hardtail:

  • The FACT 11m carbon S-Works Epic Hardtail frame is extremely high-quality. It has a lightweight that makes most road frames jealous. In fact, it is one of the lightest production hardtail frames ever produced.
  • The RockShox SID BRAIN fork combines 100 millimeters of the most efficient suspension travel on earth with RockShox's sleek yet stiff SID chassis. Truly the pinnacle of XC racing suspension perfection.
  • A Hardtail is very agile;
  • The price tag is lower compared to a Full Suspension;
  • On hard surfaces this is a true racing monster;
  • The latest Epic Pro is equipped with a Sram XO AXS drivechain. This groupset is harder, quieter, lighter and more durable. It also shifts super accurately;
  • Sram TLM with 2 piston hydrological disc brakes for balanced power and modulation;
  • An S-Works Epic Full Suspension also includes a Roval Control Wheelset.
