Mountain bike maintenance tips

Performing maintenance on your mountain bike on time is very important, but it can also take some time. The quality of the maintenance of your mountain bike is very important and that is why we would like to give you a few useful tips in this article.

Always clean your mountain bike after use

The first tip we would like to give you is: don't be lazy and completely clean your bike immediately after the session. A garden hose is sufficient for this, but note: do not use a high-pressure cleaner. With a high-pressure cleaner you can spray the oil out of the bearings and you want to avoid that at all times. Take a bucket and put a few drops of Dreft in it and then mix it with hot water. After you have rinsed away the coarser pieces of mud and dirt in advance, soak the bicycle thoroughly with the water and the Dreft. Don't forget to grab all the little edges carefully. Let everything soak in for a while and then rinse the bike clean with a slightly harder jet. To get a good result, we always wipe the bicycle with a dry cloth. You will see that you often come across areas that you have not cleaned properly. After the bicycle is completely dry, take a compressor (if you have one) and blow the remaining water off the bicycle. Especially with the bearings of a Full Suspension, it is important that everything is thoroughly dry.

We use Dasty to clean the Cassette. We spray a little bit on the cassette and let it soak in for a moment. Then take a stiff brush and clean the cassette thoroughly. You get the best result by detaching the cassette from the body on the rear wheel. Repeat the same with the chain for a good overall result.

Protect your gear

We then apply the protection of the gear. We almost always use wax instead of oil, because oil is a sticky substance that makes your chain a lot dirtier and therefore wears out your gear a lot faster. We always use Squirt Chain Wax. The Squirt lube is really easy to apply and is also a biodegradable lubricant, because it consists of a mix of water and wax. Hang your bike in the stand, take the bottle and hold it against the chain. For your calibration point on the chain, you can take the chainlink, so that you know that the wax has been completely smeared over the chain. Tip: take the entire chain twice, so that you are sure that it has been treated in its entirety. Let it soak in for 5 minutes, take a cloth, hold it at the top and bottom of the chain and turn the cranks. The result is a neat, clean chain without an unnecessary layer of wax.

Use Bike Protect

To have your bike ready for the next ride with the best results, we always use the Bike Protect from Muc off. By applying the Bike Project you create a film layer that wicks away moisture and prevents the adhesion of dirt. After cycling in wetter conditions, you can easily rinse the dirt from your bike! This film layer also offers protection against rust formation. The Bike Project is easy to apply by spraying a dry cloth and polishing the bike neatly, so that it shines again.

Tip: if you spray the Bike Protect on the cloth, keep it close to the cloth and not too far away from the cloth. It can start to mist, causing it to accidentally get onto your brake discs. You must avoid this at all times.
